Alisha Wilkinson, University of Notre Dame Start Date: October 2009 End Date: December 2011 Accountant/Bodegas
As I was discerning the next step after college, I was struggling a lot between choosing to continue in post-graduate studies, or to volunteer. I gravitated immediately toward international service in Latin America, which had been my area of studies at Notre Dame. From the testimonies of many friends and acquaintances who had previously volunteered at the Finca, I sought more information about this mission, which truly seems unique. I was attracted by the variety of ministries offered here, as well as the structure of the Farm life and the family-style atmosphere which it tries to offer. I think, in the end, it chose me. While there were other options, my heart kept bringing me back to this place, even when I tried to fight it logically. Since committing to the Finca, I have felt a deep feeling of peace. That does not mean that I have not experienced any doubts or fears, but still there is a sense of “rightness” about this that I cannot explain...and can only look to God in hopes that he knows why I am here. |
