Interview with Jeremiah and Bella (conducted separately; answers edited and complied). Q: Where do you live now? J: In Honduras, at San Valentine [the name of our house] at the Finca del Niño, adelante (he added that because he hears that over the CB when people are using the radio) B: At the Finca, here! Q: Is it in the US? B: NOOOOOOO. Q: Are we in Guatemala? B: No. Q: Where are we? B: Here! Q: Hon… B: On Earth. Q: Are we in Honduras? B: No. Q: Ok let’s go on to another question. Q: What can you tell me about the town Trujillo? J: There’s lots of restaurants and places you can buy food. I like french fries, chicken, rice and beans…and tortillas. Q: Are their special foods you didn’t eat when you were in the US? J: No Q: What about baleadas? J: Oooh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Tortilla, beans and cheese. Q: What’s a tajada? J: Hah, a banana cut up and cooked up and fried. Q: Talk to us a little bit about school. J: At school first we learn our letters from A-Z, and then after that we do the calendar, and then after that we say “Atacar” and we start playing and at the end of the school day we get stickers, and baleadas, and pray, and we’re off. B: When it’s a school day I go to get dressed, I put my underwear on, and my shorts on and my shirt on and I put my sandals on, and I get ready to go to school and I wait outside for my brother. Q: How does school start? B: Profa Becky sings “Buenos Dias, Buenos Dias, Como Estan, Como Estan” and we say “Muy bien gracias, muy bien gracias, y Usted. And she says, that’s Really right. Q: Could you say a prayer for us? J: (he proceeds to pray the Our Father more or less correctly in Spanish and then again in English)
