Many of the orphaned and abandoned children who arrive at Farm of the Child suffer from malnutrition, intestinal parasites and other health problems, little or no schooling, and lack of love and affection. At the Farm they receive a loving home-like environment in which the children can grow, learn respect for others, and become happy members of a loving family.
With the Holy Family as a model, local Catholic Honduran couples lovingly care for 8-10 orphaned children in each of the five homes operated by Farm of the Child. Under their new houseparents’ guidance and love, the children learn what it means to be a child once again - or perhaps for the first time. Their daily schedule includes family chores and responsibilities in the home. The Farm family gathers daily for morning and evening prayer in the chapel and all attend Mass on Sundays in nearby Trujillo. The children are reared and spiritually nurtured in this family environment until they are ready to live independently.
